student discussion: I think the video “Socrates on Self-Confidence” shows that Socrates is an overconfidence person, even it’s a kind of selfish, because he never cares about others opinion. However, he is great as a philosopher, just like Alain has said that he is attractive. It’s tough that when we talking about should we believe a leader or a person who has so much experience on some area. For example, the god cannot create a big stone that he cannot move. When people totally believe a god, people still could not avoid to the risk completely. Even a god is not believable, how do you know that those experts are correct? I am really skeptical of believing an expert or authority, because in my real experience, I would feel disappointment after I followed an experienced person. Just like my parents and friends always say that I should do something and I should not do something. I definitely know that they have no malice. However, the thing that they think good is not I think good. I am the subject of that thing, so I want to mention an opinion, we could have two minds, one is the subject you and one is the object you. It’s like we my friend spreads a mind that I don’t accept, but I don’t show that I don’t accept, and I still keep my own mind in the main position. Socrates thinks that living is no value if without thinking, and I define this opinion is that I feel secretly pleased if I have my own sense of worth and it’s different with others, because I won’t tell others and against people who are different with me. However, I’m still very confident, because I’m the unique. Finally, I want to say that some value form what you think and what you imagine, not what you have created and what you did. If your sense of worth makes the leaders position down, and they settled with you, what you have gotten? Maybe noting.
